Compare Gigaclear broadband deals in 2026
Gigaclear is a full fibre broadband provider built for the countryside. Rather than renting lines from Openreach, it lays its own fibre into villages and rural communities, in counties such as Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire, Somerset and Essex, and sells broadband directly over that network. If you live somewhere Gigaclear has built, you can get full fibre with advertised average speeds of up to 900Mbps; if you don't, it can't serve you at all, however much you'd like it to.
Its three home packages all have symmetrical speeds, which means your upload speed is the same as your download speed. That matters if you work from home, back up photos to the cloud or join a lot of video calls.
Enter your postcode in the comparison above to see Gigaclear's live deals at your address. Below we cover who owns Gigaclear, its Project Gigabit builds in Oxfordshire and East Gloucestershire, whether other providers sell over its network, its three packages and Smart WiFi, and what a new rural fibre installation involves. Package details were checked on Gigaclear's own website in October 2026. If you want to weigh Gigaclear against other providers, our broadband providers directory and fibre broadband deals page are the places to start.
Who is Gigaclear?
Gigaclear is the consumer brand of Gigaclear Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 07476617) and incorporated on 22 December 2010. Its head office is at Wyndyke Furlong in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, and its customer service team is also based in Oxfordshire.
The company was founded by Matthew Hare, who later set up Zzoomm, a full fibre provider aimed at smaller cities and the suburbs of larger ones. Gigaclear traded as a public limited company (Gigaclear PLC) between 2014 and 2019 before reverting to Gigaclear Limited. Its chief executive today is Nathan Rundle.
Gigaclear is what the industry calls an altnet: an alternative network operator that builds its own fibre rather than using Openreach, the network most national providers share. It designs, builds and runs the network itself and describes itself as the UK's largest independent rural full fibre network. It builds partly with its own investment and partly under Project Gigabit, the Government's Building Digital UK (BDUK) programme that funds full fibre in places commercial builders would otherwise skip. Gigaclear holds Project Gigabit contracts in Oxfordshire and East Gloucestershire; in September 2026 ISPreview reported that the East Gloucestershire contract had been changed to cover 3,872 premises.
Who owns Gigaclear?
Gigaclear's ownership has changed several times. The infrastructure investor Infracapital first invested in 2015, taking a 43.2% stake, and after a takeover offer in 2018 held roughly 78% of the company. Before April 2026 its principal owners were Infracapital, Equitix and Railpen.
On 9 April 2026 Gigaclear completed a financial recapitalisation that passed ownership to a consortium of institutional investors including the National Wealth Fund, ABN AMRO and NatWest. ISPreview reported this as the company's lenders taking control. Companies House now lists Buzz Holdco Limited, a holding company set up in January 2026 and owned by that consortium, as holding 75% or more of Gigaclear's shares from 8 April 2026.
For customers, the practical point is that ISPreview reported the change was not expected to affect Gigaclear's service, although it also said the new owners were expected to attempt another sale, so ownership could change again. Gigaclear says it is EBITDA positive (profitable before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation). ISPreview reports that it still aims to reach 1 million premises one day, although it scaled back its building programme and cut jobs in 2024 and 2025.
Where is Gigaclear available?
Gigaclear only sells broadband where it has built its own network, so availability is decided street by street, and sometimes house by house. Its network is aimed at communities outside major towns and cities, which is why you will find it in villages where the alternative is often a slower part-fibre line.
Gigaclear's locations page has dedicated county pages for:
- Oxfordshire
- Gloucestershire
- Somerset
- Essex
- Northamptonshire
- Buckinghamshire
- Berkshire
- Cambridgeshire
When we checked in October 2026, that page said more than 600,000 properties can order Gigaclear today and more than 175,000 are already connected. Its own figures for how widely it reaches vary: the locations page says 34 counties, while its about page says more than 250 communities across 26 counties. Its accounts for 2025 recorded 618,000 premises passed (up from 588,000 in 2024) and 165,000 live customers (up from 134,000).
Because the network is still growing, a village near you may be connected even if yours is not yet. Enter your postcode in the comparison above to see whether Gigaclear has deals at your address; Gigaclear's website also has a postcode checker and lets people outside its current coverage register interest.
Can I get Gigaclear's network from another provider?
Yes, in some cases. Gigaclear runs an open access network, which means other broadband companies can sell their own packages over its fibre. When we checked in October 2026, Gigaclear listed Merula, Village Networks, Wurzel, Gigabit IQ and VeloxServ as partners selling home broadband on its network. If you buy from one of them, your contract is with that provider rather than Gigaclear, but the fibre to your home is the same.
That relationship has not always been smooth. In August 2026 ISPreview reported that two providers, Exascale and Squirrel Internet, had stopped selling on Gigaclear's network. Squirrel said customers trying to switch from Gigaclear to Squirrel had been consistently kept by Gigaclear with retention deals priced well below the wholesale cost Squirrel pays, and that it would keep supporting its existing customers on the network but take on no new ones. Gigaclear had not commented when the report was published. In practice, the choice of other providers on Gigaclear's fibre is small, and the list changes, so check Gigaclear's partner page if you want an alternative supplier on the same network.
Gigaclear broadband packages
Gigaclear sells three full fibre packages, all advertised with the same average upload and download speed. Here is what it advertised when we checked in October 2026:
Package | Average download and upload | Minimum download | Contract | WiFi included |
|---|---|---|---|---|
300Mbps | 300Mbps | 240Mbps | 18 months | eero 7 router (WiFi 7) |
600Mbps | 600Mbps | 480Mbps | 18 months | eero 7 router (WiFi 7) |
900Mbps | 900Mbps | 700Mbps | 18 months | eero Pro 7 router with Smart WiFi mesh |
A few things are worth knowing when you read those numbers:
- Average speeds are measured at peak times. Gigaclear says its advertised average speeds are achieved by at least half of users on a wired connection at peak times. Speeds over WiFi can be lower, depending on your home and devices.
- Uploads match downloads. With Gigaclear, even the 300Mbps package is advertised at an average 300Mbps upload, which makes a real difference to sending large files, live streaming and video calls when several people are online at once.
- Every package is 18 months. Gigaclear does not list a shorter or rolling broadband contract, so you are choosing between speeds rather than contract lengths.
- Set-up costs differ by package. Standard installation is free on all three. Activation is free on the 600Mbps and 900Mbps packages, while an activation fee applies on the 300Mbps package.
- The range was relaunched in June 2026. ISPreview reported that Gigaclear re-launched all its packages that month around Amazon's eero routers, with engineers now tasked with optimising the WiFi in each home when they fit a new line.
All three are broadband-only as standard; you can add a home phone if you want one. Which package suits you depends on how many people use the connection at once. If you are not sure, our guide on how to choose a broadband package walks through it, and you can see how your current connection compares with our broadband speed test.
Extras and bundles
Gigaclear keeps its range simple: broadband, a home phone and WiFi upgrades. When we checked in October 2026 it did not sell its own TV package or mobile plans. Its Entertainment page instead points customers to streaming services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, BBC iPlayer and Disney, which you would sign up to separately.
Routers and Smart WiFi
Every Gigaclear package comes with an eero WiFi 7 router at no extra cost: the eero 7 on packages up to 600Mbps and the more powerful eero Pro 7 on the 900Mbps package. The 900Mbps package also comes with Smart WiFi mesh included. A mesh network uses extra eero units around the house that pass the signal between them, so coverage doesn't fade the further you get from the router; Gigaclear's offer terms define Smart WiFi as an eero router plus one additional unit.
On the 300Mbps and 600Mbps packages, Smart WiFi is an add-on. There are three tiers, Smart WiFi, Smart WiFi Plus and Smart WiFi Max, with Max designed for homes up to 3,500 square feet. Smart WiFi comes with a WiFi Guarantee of a strong connection in every main room; if Gigaclear doesn't deliver that, you can cancel the Smart WiFi add-on and get a month's broadband free. The guarantee doesn't promise coverage in outbuildings, conservatories, basements or garages, which is worth knowing in a rural home with a detached office or annexe.
Where an engineer connects your home, they will position the eero devices for the best coverage at no extra cost; if your property is already connected, you set them up yourself with a guide. eero Secure, which adds threat protection, ad blocking, content filters and parental controls, is currently included free, although Gigaclear says it may introduce a charge for it in future. One thing to be aware of: ISPreview notes that eero routers are managed through an app and can lack some of the advanced settings and extra ports found on other routers. For more ideas, see our guide to improving your WiFi signal.
Gigaclear Home Phone
Gigaclear's network is full fibre with no copper, so its landline is a VoIP service (voice over internet protocol), meaning your calls run over the full fibre broadband connection. That is the direction the whole country is moving in: the traditional copper phone network (the PSTN) is being retired, and most customers are expected to have moved to digital landlines by the end of January 2027.
Home Phone is only available with Gigaclear broadband and comes on rolling monthly plans with one month's notice and no early termination charge. There are two call plans: unlimited calls to UK landlines on evenings and weekends, or unlimited calls to UK landlines and mobiles. Inclusive calls cover UK numbers starting 01, 02 and 03 and mobiles starting 07, with some exclusions such as 070 personal numbers. You can keep your existing number: you get a temporary number first, and Gigaclear says the transfer is usually completed within two weeks of activation. It warns not to cancel your old phone service until the transfer is complete, or the number could be lost. Voicemail, call divert, caller display and blocking of premium, international and withheld numbers are included.
There are important limits. Home Phone will not work in a power cut or a network outage. Gigaclear offers a battery backup unit on request; its terms say this should keep the service running for at least an hour so you can call the emergency services, but only from a corded phone, because it can't power a cordless DECT handset. Gigaclear does not recommend Home Phone if you rely on a landline because of disability or accessibility needs and have no other way to reach the emergency services in a power cut. Telecare devices and Redcare/ADT-type alarms that rely on a copper line are not supported either; Gigaclear says you would need to keep a traditional copper landline for them, so talk to your alarm provider before you order.
What do Gigaclear customers say?
Gigaclear scores very well with its own customers. On Trustpilot it had a TrustScore of 4.8 out of 5, rated “Excellent”, from 41,171 reviews when we checked on 8 October 2026. Of those, 79% were five-star and 8% were one-star, so a minority of customers have had a poor experience. You can read the latest reviews on Gigaclear's Trustpilot page.
It also has industry recognition: Gigaclear was named Best Rural Fibre Provider at the 2025 UK Fibre Awards, announced in London on 5 June 2025. At the 2026 awards, held in June 2026, that title went to Quickline instead. The UK Fibre Awards are judged by a panel of industry experts rather than by customers.
Customer service is run by an Oxfordshire-based team, reachable by phone, email, live chat and an online customer portal, with a Support Hub of help articles. The team is open seven days a week, though only live chat is available on Sundays.
Price rises and contract terms
Gigaclear's terms on mid-contract prices read differently from many national providers, so it is worth reading this part carefully.
- Prices may change. Each package on Gigaclear's website says prices may change during the contract. Its residential terms (in force from 2 February 2026) don't name a set amount or date for any rise; clause 3.5 says Gigaclear may review its charges at any time and will give you at least one month's notice of a price change.
- You can leave if the price goes up. If Gigaclear notifies you of a change that is not solely to your benefit, including a price rise, you can end the contract within 30 days of the notice without paying the early termination charge.
- What the rules require. For contracts taken out since 17 January 2025, Ofcom's rules require providers to set out any in-contract price rise in pounds and pence when you sign up, and say when it will happen; rises linked to inflation or a percentage are no longer allowed. We could not see the contract summary Gigaclear issues before you order, which is where any planned rise should appear, so read it before you confirm.
- After 18 months. When the minimum term ends, any discounts stop and you move to Gigaclear's list price for existing customers at that time. That is the moment to compare again.
- Leaving early. If you leave during the minimum term, the early termination charge can be up to the remaining charges for the rest of the term, plus the cost of any equipment you don't return.
- Cooling-off and payment. You have 14 days to cancel, counted from the day after you receive your Order Confirmation, and the request must be in writing. Gigaclear only takes payment by direct debit.
Switching to Gigaclear
Gigaclear supports One Touch Switch, Ofcom's switching process in place since 12 September 2024, which works even when the two providers use different networks. You only contact the new provider. Your current provider then sends you the key switching information, including any early termination charge and any services you would lose, and once you have read it and agreed, the new provider arranges the switch. Your old contract ends when your Gigaclear service goes live, so you don't need to give your old provider notice.
With Gigaclear, One Touch Switch is optional. You can switch broadband this way online, but if you also want to bring your home phone across, you need to arrange that with its sales team by phone. One Touch Switch is not available if you are moving home, and Gigaclear pays automatic compensation if a switch goes wrong because of a failure on its side. If you decide to cancel your old provider yourself instead, Gigaclear recommends waiting until your Gigaclear service is installed and working, so you are not left without internet in between.
If you are still tied into a contract elsewhere, Gigaclear was advertising an In-Contract Offer in October 2026: with 12 months or less left on your current deal, you could get up to 12 months of Gigaclear broadband free while it runs out. Offers change, so check the current terms before you order. For a step-by-step overview, read our guide to switching broadband providers.
What happens at installation?
If your home is already connected to Gigaclear's network, for example because a previous owner had it, you can usually be up and running within seven days using a self-install guide. Otherwise, installation normally happens in two stages:
- Pre-installation work outside. Gigaclear brings the fibre to the outside of your property. You don't need to be home for this.
- Installation day. An engineer arrives between 8am and 6pm and spends around two hours fitting an external box and an internal wall box (which means drilling a new hole through the wall), then activates your service and confirms the speed. Someone over 18 must be at home, and you will need two free power sockets, or four if you have ordered Home Phone.
You can book installation between 14 and 90 days after ordering, and Gigaclear says dates are typically available within about three weeks. The fibre reaches your home in one of three ways: overhead from the nearest telephone pole, where possible following the route your existing phone line takes; through existing underground ducting; or by burying a cable in your garden from your boundary, which Gigaclear says it sometimes has to do when the existing BT ducting is blocked or damaged. Listed buildings, very long drives or special surfaces count as non-standard installations; these need a survey and, in a small number of cases, a contribution from you towards the cost, which Gigaclear agrees with you before work starts.
Pros and things to consider
Why people choose Gigaclear
- Its own full fibre network all the way to the home, with no copper, in rural areas where fast broadband can be hard to find.
- Symmetrical speeds on every package, so uploads are as fast as downloads.
- An eero WiFi 7 router included as standard, with Smart WiFi mesh included on the 900Mbps package and free eero Secure for now.
- Free standard installation on all packages, free activation on the 600Mbps and 900Mbps packages, and engineers who position your WiFi kit for you.
- Strong customer ratings: 4.8 out of 5 on Trustpilot from more than 41,000 reviews (checked 8 October 2026), and Best Rural Fibre Provider at the 2025 UK Fibre Awards.
- Home Phone on rolling monthly plans, so you are not tied in for your landline.
Things to consider
- It is only available where Gigaclear has built, so many households simply can't get it.
- Every broadband package is on an 18-month contract; there is no shorter option listed.
- Its terms allow it to review prices at any time with at least a month's notice, though you can leave without a penalty within 30 days of being told about a rise.
- The 300Mbps package carries an activation fee.
- No TV or mobile bundles, so you can't combine bills with Gigaclear the way you can with some national providers.
- Only a handful of other providers sell over its network, and two stopped selling on it in 2026.
- The landline won't work in a power cut without the battery backup, and copper-dependent alarms aren't supported.
- New connections can take a few weeks and two visits, and unusual properties may need a survey.
Gigaclear vs alternatives
The right comparison for Gigaclear depends on what else reaches your address. In many villages the main alternative is a part-fibre (FTTC) line, where fibre runs to a street cabinet and the old copper line carries the signal the rest of the way, so speeds depend on how far you are from that cabinet. Compare the advertised download and upload speeds of each option before you decide.
Other independent rural full fibre providers have pages of their own: Quickline, which won Best Rural Fibre Provider at the 2026 UK Fibre Awards; Voneus, which bought the assets and customers of Airband in August 2026; and Truespeed. Zzoomm was set up by Gigaclear's founder, Matthew Hare, and targets smaller cities and suburbs rather than villages. Each of these networks covers its own areas, so their pages explain where they build.
To weigh Gigaclear against national providers such as BT and Sky, browse all fibre broadband deals, see every provider in our broadband providers directory, or look up your town in broadband deals by area.
Gigaclear broadband FAQs
Is Gigaclear available at my address?
Only if Gigaclear has built its full fibre network to your property. It mainly covers villages and rural communities, with county pages for Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire, Somerset, Essex, Northamptonshire, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire and Cambridgeshire. Enter your postcode in the comparison on this page to see Gigaclear's live deals at your address; Gigaclear's own website also has a postcode checker.
Does Gigaclear use the Openreach network?
It doesn't use Openreach's lines. Gigaclear designs, builds and runs its own full fibre network, with fibre all the way into your home and no copper. To reach your home, though, its fibre may run along existing telephone poles or through existing BT ducting. A few other providers also sell broadband over Gigaclear's network.
What speeds does Gigaclear offer?
When we checked in October 2026, Gigaclear advertised three packages with average speeds of 300Mbps, 600Mbps and 900Mbps. Upload speeds match download speeds on each one, and the minimum download speeds are 240Mbps, 480Mbps and 700Mbps respectively. The averages are measured on a wired connection at peak times.
How long is a Gigaclear broadband contract?
All Gigaclear broadband packages have an 18-month minimum term. After that, discounts end and you move to its list price for existing customers at the time. Leaving early can cost up to the remaining charges for the term. You can cancel in writing within 14 days of the day after you receive your Order Confirmation. Home Phone is a separate rolling monthly plan.
Will my Gigaclear price go up during my contract?
It can. Gigaclear's packages say prices may change during the contract, and its terms let it review charges at any time with at least one month's notice. If it raises your price, you can end the contract within 30 days of the notice without an early termination charge. Check the contract summary before ordering for any rise set out in pounds and pence.
Does Gigaclear offer TV or mobile deals?
No, not when we checked in October 2026. Gigaclear sells broadband, a VoIP home phone and Smart WiFi mesh upgrades. For TV it points customers to streaming services such as Netflix, BBC iPlayer and Disney, which you subscribe to separately and watch over your Gigaclear connection.
Will my Gigaclear landline work in a power cut?
No. Gigaclear Home Phone runs over your broadband connection, so it stops working in a power cut or network outage. Gigaclear offers a battery backup unit on request that should keep it working for at least an hour, but only with a corded phone. Telecare and Redcare/ADT-type alarms that need a copper line are not supported.
How long does Gigaclear installation take?
You can book installation 14 to 90 days after ordering, and Gigaclear says dates are typically available within about three weeks. The engineer's visit takes around two hours, after outside work that doesn't need you home. If your property is already connected, you can usually self-install within seven days.
Can I use One Touch Switch to move to Gigaclear?
Yes. Gigaclear supports One Touch Switch: you contact Gigaclear, your current provider sends you details of any early termination charge, and Gigaclear arranges the switch so you don't need to cancel yourself. You can switch broadband online, but moving a home phone across must be arranged by phone. It does not apply if you are moving home.
Who owns Gigaclear?
Since a recapitalisation completed on 9 April 2026, Gigaclear has been owned by a consortium of institutional investors including the National Wealth Fund, ABN AMRO and NatWest, through a holding company called Buzz Holdco. Before that its main owners were Infracapital, Equitix and Railpen. ISPreview reported that the new owners were expected to try to sell it again.
